Tombow Pencil Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Tokyo; President: Akihiro Ogawa) held the 9th “Tombow Display Contest 2024” from July 16th for two months this year calling on stationery stores nationwide. A total of 177 stationery stores participated.
This year participants competed to see which “MONO” and “PiT” brand products were their favorites.The favorite item was the much-talked-about oil-based ballpoint pen “Monograph Lite” with needle tip.
The judging committee met on October 10th and the winners (company) of each award were determined. The Grand Prix winner was “BUNKYODO Sapporo Lucy” in Sapporo City, Hokkaido Prefecture.
We are delighted to announce that Store has been an enthusiastic participant in our competitions, winning the “Regional Special Award” in the 7th contest in 2022 and the ” Semi-Grand Prix ” in the 8th contest in 2023. This year, they have finally achieved the top honor by winning the Grand Prize. The grand prize presentation ceremony was held on November 12th at the BUNKYODO Sapporo Lucy (photo).

A striking decoration measuring W180×H190cm prominently features the iconic MONO brand’s tri-color design of blue, white, and black, known as one of the first “trademarks consisting only of colors”. The MONO and PiT logos are symmetrically placed on either side, balancing the overall design.

“We were incredibly surprised and honored to receive the announcement. It was deeply gratifying to see our efforts come to fruition, and we are sincerely pleased.”
What points of creativity and effort went into your display?
“We used the tricolor of black, white, and blue–a registered trademark of Tombow Pencil Co.–as our central theme. We created a bold yet simple three-dimensional design using construction paper.”
How did customers respond during the display period?
“Placed prominently at the entrance, our display attracted the attention of many customers, which resulted in numerous engagements with Tombow Pencil Co.’s products.”
Who are your main customers at the Bunkyodo Sapporo Lucy Store, and what is your sales strategy?
“We primarily serve elderly customers, so we focus on creating informative POP signs and easy-to-navigate product displays.”
Do you plan on actively participating in the Tombow Display Contest in the future?
“Given the chance, we would definitely like to participate again.”
