Tombow Pencil Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Kita-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Akihiro Ogawa) will launch a new product, “Pit Air Recycled Fishing Net” (product name); based on the flagship refillable glue tape “Pit Air” and whose plastic applicator case is made from recycled fishing nets; at stationery stores and stationery corners nationwide on November 18th. suggested retail price 484 JPY (440 JPY excluding tax) = photo).
*1 Tape glue: A thin layer of glue is applied by placing the applicator head on paper and pulling. Sticks without waiting and does not stain hands or desk. This product is refillable and the applicator case can be used repeatedly.
This product has been commercialized using the raw material “REAMIDEⓇ”*2, made by the recycled resin manufacturer Refineverse Co., Ltd. (Head office: Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, President: Akira Ochi), which collects, separates, cleans, and turns used fishing nets into plastic pellets (granular raw material used in plastic molding).
The case is deep blue, the color of the deep sea, with a silhouette of a dolphin in the center and the message “RECYCLED FISHING NETS.” Every time you use it, it will encourage you to think about and be aware of the marine environment.
This product uses more than 10% by mass of recycled plastic fishing nets. Eco Mark certified; Green Purchasing Law compliant; and a “Green Tombow” product that meets our voluntary standards.
In response to the growing awareness of SDGs in society, we have been searching for and considering recycled materials that are easy for users to understand the source and that can easily contribute to the environment. During this time, it was learned that Refinverse is recycling fishing nets that have outlived their usefulness. Refinverse has been supplying us with these recycled nylon pellets “REAMIDEⓇ”*2 for testing moldability, durability, etc. for several years. As a result, we have been able to commercialize it in our tape glue, which among our products uses a relatively large amount of plastic.
In accordance with our quality standards, we actively promote the use of environmentally friendly recycled materials in our products; materials whose origins are easy for users to understand; in order to raise awareness of environmental issues and make a direct, albeit small contribution to the environment.

The amount of plastic waste disposed of and discharged into the world’s oceans is estimated to be 150 million tons*1~3 In Japan, about 40% of marine debris is calculated to be 640,000 tons per year from fishing nets and other fishing gear. *4Fishing nets used in Japan are discarded when their role is over, but Refineverse collects nylon fishing nets from all over Japan and reincarnates them as recycled nylon pellets “REAMIDE(R)”. In addition to the same quality as virgin nylon, we have created a method that has a low environmental impact in the recycling process. In Inatori and Shimoda in Shizuoka Prefecture, we are also engaged in sorting and collecting waste fishing nets, recycling them into REAMIDE®, and providing them to various companies working on sustainability, including dragonfly pencils. ※1 Neufeld, L., et al. “The new plastics economy: rethinking the future of plastics.” World Economic Forum. 2016.
