We are pleased to announce that the eraser “MONO Natural”, released by Tombow Pencil Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Kita-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Akihiro Ogawa) in April 2024 has won the 2024 Good Design Award (sponsored by the Japan Design Promotion Organization).
Mono Natural – Comments from the judges
When you think of MONO erasers, you think of the familiar black, white and blue coloring, but when you see this product wrapped in natural colors, you immediately become interested in the story behind it.
It’s an environmentally friendly product that doesn’t sacrifice usability and has an erasing feel comparable to a standard MONO eraser, which is nice. I’m sure that through this product, more people will become interested in and deepen their understanding of the environmental impact of scallop shells.
This is a good example of how innovation in a small, everyday product, can be a catalyst for changing consumer awareness.
Good Design Award 2024 Winner ： “Mono Natural”eraser features
(1) Scallop shell powder is kneaded into the eraser’s filler.
(2) Each eraser contains more than 10% (by weight) of biomass raw materials such as scallop shells.
(3) Obtained Biomass Mark certified by the Japan Organic Resources Association.
(4) Guaranteed erasure rate of more than 95% (measured value). Equivalent to the standard MONO PE series.
(5) Eraser’s base color is the same as the raw materials scallop shells.
(6) In addition to fulfilling the product’s role, it also appeals to the company’s attitude in response to SDGs awareness.
(7) 7. Other features: Eraser does not use phthalate plasticizers/ Complies with the Green Purchasing Act (recycled paper is used for the sleeve)
