Tombow Pencil Co., Ltd. (Head office, Kita-ku, Tokyo, President, Akihiro Ogawa) will be awarded the “Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award” (trademark Utilization Excellent company) in FY 2018 in the Intellectual Property Merit Prize * Established by the METI Patent Office. The first company in the stationery manufacturer to award the minister of Economy, Trade and Industry award in trademark use.

* The METI Patent Office will commemorate the promulgation of the “Invention Day” (Japan’s first patented patent ordinance, April 18, Meiji 18) each year, April 18, For individuals who have contributed to the development, dissemination, and enlightenment of the intellectual property rights system, the “Commendation for the Intellectual property rights system” and the companies that have contributed to the smooth operation and development of the system in an effective use of the intellectual property rights system as a commendation for outstanding companies, etc. We are honored. Both awards are collectively referred to as “the Intellectual Property Achievement award.”
2. Points of award
■ Has established the Intellectual Property Division as a specialized department, and has established internal rules such as IP management rules, as well as acquiring and managing intellectual property rights, developing IP strategies, dealing with counterfeit products, and handling licenses. We have more than 270 registered trademarks in Japan to protect our brand.
■ The acquisition and management of intellectual property rights in foreign countries is centrally managed by the head Office IP Division in Japan, and while listening to the opinions of local subsidiaries in foreign countries, the head office is responsible for consulting with local agents.
■ The brand is being developed by the corporate brand which uses it together with all the products of the whole world, and a composite brand strategy which together with the product group brand and the individual brand according to the product concept and the user layer. With many years of use, we have a large number of trademarks that have been created by the trust of the consumer, and we have developed products in line with the brand’s value of offering and consistent design strategy, and are implementing strategic product development and promotion while expanding the brand. In addition, the trademark rights are acquired as the first issue of the trademark consisting only of color.
